The vitality and strength of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in research, the provision of professional consulting services, as well as extension services, have significantly contributed to increasing production and productivity in the agriculture sector in the country.

The statement was made on April 8, 2024, by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko, while representing the President of  Zanzibar, Hon. Hussein Mwinyi, at the opening of the national debate to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Edward Moringe Sokoine's life held in Morogoro.

Dr. Biteko has urged SUA leaders to continue providing training to produce skilled professionals in the agriculture and livestock sector and to make the sector a haven for many people, especially young people who are the nation's workforce.
"If you do that, you will continue to honor in practice the one whose name you have carried in your university by making the youth of this country turn to the agricultural sector as a source of employment and economic growth", said Dr. Biteko.

Talking about the life of the late Sokoine, the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Prof. Adolf Mkenda, has said that Sokoine was a patriot with integrity, a hero, and no joke in his work where the results of his work were seen in his actions, not words.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture, Prof. Raphael Chibunda, has said that the purpose of the debate is to honor the late Sokoine for his great contribution to the nation.
"The Commemorative Motto of Edward Sokoine's 40th anniversary is the National Heritage of his Leadership, Diligence, Integrity, and Trustworthiness. This aims to enable young people to respect the history, an indelible legacy, and the strong foundations of leadership left by the late Sokoine, which will be used as a reference to guide young people and present and future generations," said Prof. Chibunda.
