Sokoine University of Agriculture Animal Referral Hospital is the only veterinary referral hospital in Tanzania. This hospital which is under the auspices of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the Sokoine University of Agriculture has been a great help to pastoralists in the country in solving various animal health problems.
SUA Animal Referral Hospital Building
The Hospital has recently embarked on a program of improvement involving building expansion and upgrading of medical equipment. Dr. Isack Kashoma who is the managing director of the hospital noted that the improvements made are important steps in ensuring that services at the hospital will be of the highest standard.
The upgrading of this hospital has been made possible by the funding of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, and the "Foundation Science for Development" organization under the Polish government.
SUA Animal Referral Hospital also serves as a Teaching Hospital for students studying veterinary medicine at SUA. Dr Kashoma said the improvement of the hospital will help improve student teaching services as it will support the availability of a larger teaching area with better and more modern equipment.
SUA Animal Referral Hospital focuses on a wide range of services including routine veterinary treatment, surgery, vaccinations and advice to animal keepers. The hospital has a special ward for the care of patients (animals) who need intensive care.
