APPLICATIONS FOR FULL SPONSORSHIP FOR STUDIES LEADING TO THE AWARD OF A PhD IN AGRO-ECOLOGY (PhD. AGRo-ECO)

INVITATION TO SUA ACADEMIC STAFF

INTRODUCTION
The Tanzania Comission for Universities (TCU) approved the curriculum for PhD Agroecology (PhD. AGRo-ECO) and adverstisement inviting applications has already been posted on the SUA website and in various newspapers. Further information about the programme is available in the PhD Agroecology Handbook and a flier, also posted on the same website and linked to the BSU 3 webpage


SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SUA STAFF
As part of implementation of the BSU 3 under the Agroecology thematic area, the programme has set aside funds to sponsor TWO Sokoine University of Agriculture Staff who wish to study under the programme. The programme is hosted in the Department of Crop Science and Horticulture but candidates who wish to be considered for the scholarships can be registered in any academic department at SUA


CONDITIONS FOR SPONSORSHIP:

  1. Must be a full time employee of SUA
  2. Must be under the age of 40
  3. Must have applied for PhD studies at SUA commencing 2019/20 academic year
  4. Female candidates are specifically encouraged to apply
     

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES

The PhD Agroecology programme is flexible and welcomes applications from a wide range of disciplines. Applicants must be holders of a Masters’ degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop and Soil Sciences, Livestock Sciences, Forestry, Agroforestry, General Science, Ecology, Range Management, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Economics, and other biological and social sciences.


DURATION
The financial support to successful candidates is for 4 years


FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Successful candidates will be awarded full sponsorship incorporating University fees, research funds, stipend and other costs approved by SUA. The scholarship also includes up to three months stay in a selected institution in Denmark every year in years 2, 3 and 4 for specific segments of the study as shall be determined in consultation with the supervisor(s).


ELIGIBILITY
Candidates who wish to apply for the scholarship must fulfill the following:

  1. Apply through the normal procedures as per advertisement of the programme at the SUA website
  2. Submit to the Agroecology Thematic Area, Training Coordinator (Dr. Antony Sangeda: sangeda@sua.ac.tz) an application letter for sponsorship
  3. The application letter in (ii) be accompanied with a concept note of a maximum four pages, Times New Roman font 12 and 1.5 line space indicating their initial idea on the study area chosen
  4. Successful candidates shall first have to secure admission to SUA as per general guidelines and will be informed in writing
