Programme Structure

The MA (DPPA) is a twenty-four (24) months programme of which to complete, it requires the candidates attain at least 1800 notional hours of learning translating into at 180 credits as per University Qualification Framework (UQF).  The 180 credits shall include at least 90 credits from core courses and at least 30 credits from elective courses. The 120 credits shall be accumulated over two semesters in the first year, at the end of which students shall develop a research proposal, which shall carry 15 credits. After successfully developing the proposal, the subsequent twelve (12) months shall be allotted to a dissertation (45 credits).

LEARNING OUTCOME

Exit Level Outcomes and Associated Assessment Criteria

There will be two exit level outcomes associated with this programme.  A candidate who, for some reason, fails to continue with studies but has successfully accumulated a minimum of 120 or 90 credits from two semesters of coursework, shall be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Development Planning and Policy Analysis and a Postgraduate Certificate in Development Planning and Policy Analysis respectively. Such candidates, in the future, will have possibilities to complete the MA (DPPA) at SUA or elsewhere as specified in Section 4.2, provided he or she registers within a period of three years from the date he/she acquired a postgraduate diploma or a postgraduate certificate. 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Undergraduate degree from an approved higher learning institution, with a minimum GPA of 2.7. Candidates who hold unclassified degrees should have an average of B in a course related to the programme applied. In addition to general admission requirements, apply if you hold: a) an unclassified degree with at least an average of B in a course related to the MA DPPA. b) a PASS degree and your undergraduate performance in a course related to the MADPPA was a B grade average or above, and have extensive fieldwork/research experience of at least three years and/or additional professional development courses of a duration not less than three months. c) a degree with background in statistics and microeconomics, at least an introductory (basic) level.
