Highlights from the 33rd Sokoine University of Agriculture Graduation Ceremony

 


The Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) celebrated its 33rd Graduation Ceremony on Friday 24th November, 2017 at the Solomon Mahlangu Campus (Nelson Mandela Freedom Square) located in Mazimbu, Morogoro.

In the colorful ceremony which started with academic procession and playing of the National Anthem, the Chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture Hon.Joseph Sinde Warioba conferred various degree and non-degree qualifications to the 2016/2017 academic year graduands.

The day also involved the inauguration of the 3rd Chancellor of the Sokoine University of Agriculture, Hon. Joseph Sinde Warioba who was appointed to the position on 17th November, 2016 by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Hon.Dr. John Pombe Magufuli. Hon.Joseph Sinde Warioba was born on September 3, 1940 and served as prime minister and vice president of the United Republic of Tanzania from 1985 to 1990.

Speaking in the event, the Chairman of Sokoine University of Agriculture Council Hon. Mohamed Chande Othman welcomed the Chancellor to the 33rd graduation ceremony and he also gave the report of various activities and projects accomplished by the university in the year 2016/2017.

The vice chancellor of Sokoine University of Agriculture Prof. Raphael Chibunda used the opportunity to congratulate all graduands and urged them to use their education and skills to serve the community and country in general.

In this year, a total of 2726 students were awarded various degree qualifications which include Doctor of philosophy (PhD), Masters, Postgraduate Diploma, undergraduate degrees, Diploma and Certificate programs compared to 2406 of last year 2016.

It is our expectation that all Graduands will use the education and various entrepreneurship skills gained at SUA to employ themselves and where possible to generate jobs for other Tanzanians.
