The 35th Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) prize giving ceremony to recognize those who excelled in Academic performance, Research , students leadership and best unit websites for the year 2019 was held on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from around 08:00 am to 11.30 am at the Council Chamber hall of Sokoine University of Agriculture.
The guest of honor was the Director of Technology and Innovation in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Maulilio. J. Kipanyula who insisted on the importance of investing in Science, Technology, Creativity and Innovation as the only way of dealing with challenges in today’s world.
He said that in order to keep up with the current era, it is important for all higher learning institutions especially Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to develop programmes, courses and new curricula that will help make Students more creative and innovative and get rid of outdated curricula.
“As the institution, we need to always ask ourselves, does the education we offer helps our young people to think to be creative, innovative and aware of the proper use of technology? If we fail to invest in young people then it will be hard to reach our goals” said Prof. Kipanyula.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (academic) Prof. Peter Gillah thanked the Ministry of Education through its Minister Prof. Joyce Ndalichako for the financial support given to the university that helped in the construction of the new cafeteria building, renovation of Engineering Buildings and Nicholaus Kuhanga Hostels.

On her side, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance) Prof. Yasinta Muzanila said that, the University recognizes the importance of creativity and innovation in its teachings and that major improvements will start being implemented on early 2020.

Immediately after the end of program for the award giving ceremony, Prof. Kipanyula joined other guests, stakeholders and SUA Alumni to participate at a the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SUA Convocation which was held at the Multipurpose hall, main Campus and various issues were presented and discussed including the success of the Sports Bonanza that brought together Staff, Students, graduates of the Sokoine University of Agriculture.
