SUA empowers young early career researchers

Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) through the Research and Innovation Support (SUARIS) program has organized a four-day training workshop from 19^th to 22^nd April 2021 for early career researchers/junior academic members of staff with the aim of building their capacity on writing publications and research projects proposals that are productive and beneficial to citizens and the nation at large.

Speaking at the close of the training, Prof. Japhet Kashaigili who is the SUA Research and Publications Coordinator said that the university through its internal revenue for this financial year has allocated Tshs. 500,000,000 / = (five hundred million) to facilitate early career researchers/junior academic members of staff to carry out their research work effectively

"Since these are young researchers who are just beginning to learn how to best write various research projects and publications, we have found it very important to have capacity building training so that their writing or researches can be more productive and effective for our country, and that is why this training has been provided by experienced experts from Sokoine University of Agriculture ", said Prof. Kashaigili.

In addition, Prof. Kashaigili said due to the misconception that research does not help the people, now the fund set up by SUA will help answer the challenges and focus more on doing research that will benefit the people.

"It is true that there has been a long-standing impression that most of the research studies are not very helpful to the community because those studies have been focused on just ordinary publications, but I must say that this program we have launched here at SUA is different, our expectations are high and current research will be based in solving the problems of the people ", said Prof. Kashaigili

Expressing his gratitude on behalf of all the beneficiaries of the program, Dr. Nicholas Mwalukasa who is a lecturer from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) thanked the University for coming up with this program and also for organizing and providing the training which will be a great help to them and used the opportunity to encourage other researchers especially those experienced to continue to help citizens through research. as well as professional advice on various areas of need.

Speaking while officially closing the training, Prof. Samuel Kabote on behalf of Prof. Maulid Mwatawala who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) said that apart from the amount of money allocated by the university to help young academic researchers (Tshs. 500,000,000 / =) the University plans to increase the funding to one billion shillings in the next financial year.

Nineteen (19) young researchers from Sokoine University of Agriculture hope to benefit from a special fund to help young academic researchers known as SUA Research and Innovation Support (SUARIS) which will help young people to do their research in various parts of Tanzania.

To further improve her position in the world, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) has set aside TZS 500,000,000 from the Research and Innovation Support (SUARIS) for the 2020/2021 financial year to support research, publications and innovations for young early career researchers. A total of Nineteen (19) young researchers from Sokoine University of Agriculture hope to benefit from the program.
