As one of Tanzania’s leading higher learning institutions in agriculture, natural resources and applied sciences, Sokoine University of Agriculture continues to strengthen practical training through modern facilities that equip students with hands on skills and prepare them to effectively compete in the labour market through various academic programmes.
Speaking to SUA Media, Assistant Lecturer from the Department of Forest Engineering and Wood Utilization, Mr. Gabriel Mang’ula said the practical training approach enables students to connect classroom theories with real-life applications, thereby enhancing their professional competence and competitiveness in the job market.
During the practical sessions, first-year students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Wood Technology and Value Addition conducted natural timber drying exercises, while second year students engaged in log processing activities. Third-year students were involved in the production of furniture for university use.

The training activities were conducted at the Vuyisile Mini Factory located at Solomon Mahlangu Campus, where students gain direct industrial exposure in an environment that reflects real workplace conditions before graduation.
On their part, students Sesilia Arui and Valentine Vicente said the programme provides them with in depth knowledge of trees, timber drying processes and wood utilization, helping them build strong professional skills, practical experience and confidence for the labour market.
