MSc in Irrigation Engineering and Management

The programme is aimed at developing the required human resource base in the region to address issues related to utilisation and management of water resources for sustainable crop production.  Specifically, the programme is designed to:

  1. Provide the student with the knowledge and skills needed to design, operate and maintain irrigation systems and the associated water supply and drainage networks at scheme, farm and field levels; and also
  2. Impart creativity to enable the student develop solutions to management problems, particularly those which limit the successful operation of irrigation schemes.

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES AND ASSOCIATED ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Regulations pertaining to course evaluation shall be as per General University Examination Regulations and Guidelines for Postgraduate Programmes of Sokoine University of Agriculture.   

MSc. in Irrigation Engineering and Management will be awarded to candidate upon completion and successful passing of all core courses and selected elective courses in year one and Research starting in year two. Candidates who have completed year 1 but could not meet the requirement for the degree due to various reasons will qualify for Postgraduate Diploma in Irrigation Engineering and Management. 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
The Admission regulations for Masters Degrees as stipulated in "Regulations and guidelines for higher degrees" of Sokoine University of Agriculture shall apply.  The MSc. in Irrigation Engineering Management degree programme is open to applicants with a background in irrigation and water resources engineering, water resources engineering and management, agricultural engineering, civil engineering, structural engineering, environmental engineering, or related field.
