Mapping potential risks areas of major arboviruses transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in western Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Event Type
Lecture /Seminar
Event Summary

Arboviruses are referring to the viruses transmitted to human and animals by blood-feeding arthropods.  Mosquitoes belonging to subgenus stegomyia in particular, Aedes eagypti  and Aedes albopictus are the most competent vector of major of arboviruses  of public health importance such as Chikungunya, Dengue, Zika, Yellow fever virus. Therapy options are very limited; vaccine is available only against Yellow fever and dengue.

Therefore, the integrated vector control remains the key strategy for their management. The management of arboviruses is complicated because of many factors that influence their epidemiology. Mapping potential arbovirus vector distributions is indispensable in order to enhance understanding about the disease ecology by identifying drivers of emergence acting at local and to design an appropriate arbovirus disease control.

During the presentation, the Speaker will present novel approach that will provide guidance in the development and implementation of strategies for control of arboviral diseases in DRC and other hotspot areas.
