CYSTINET -Africa Project research results dissemination workshop 25th to 26th January in Dodoma.
We are delighted to inform you that, CYSTINET -Africa project managed by the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in collaboration with the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and Food Security, a Sida-Subprogramme from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) has been studying Pork Tapeworm (Taenia solium) in several districts of Tanzania, including Kongwa, Chunya, Mbozi, Rungwe, Iringa, Songwe, Mbulu, Babati, and Njombe. The Port Tapeworm, in severe cases, causes epilepsy resulting in poor health and loss of productive force in children, adolescents, and adults. The number of cases in the study areas is alarming and families caring for the sick are going through financial and psychological stresses.
The problem needs to be addressed at all levels with a multidisciplinary and multi-sector approach. We are organizing a two-day dissemination workshop to be held on the 25th and 26th of January 2023 at Rafiki Hotel in Dodoma, Tanzania, to disseminate research findings and recommendations to respond to the problem.
Targeted participants of this event are key actors at a ministerial level including, but not limited to the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Ministry of Water, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG) and relevant government agencies.
The main objective of the workshop is to disseminate research findings to key policy and decision-makers, to create awareness, and highlight the recommendations for the prevention and control of the diseases caused by the pork tapeworm.
